Meet Alexis Owings, LPCC
Child & Family Therapist in Eden Prairie, Minnesota
Helping children manage big emotions, build confidence, and strengthen relationships through play therapy and compassionate support.
When your child is struggling with anxiety, big emotions, friendships, or challenging behaviors, it can be hard to know how to help. You want them to feel confident, understood, and connected, but sometimes the strategies you've tried just aren't working.
I'm Alexis, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor at Creekside Counseling in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. I specialize in working with children, particularly ages 6–12, and also support teens and adults navigating anxiety, self-esteem, relationship challenges, and life transitions.
I believe meaningful change begins with feeling seen, heard, and understood. My goal is to create a warm, welcoming space where you or your child can feel comfortable being yourselves while developing the skills and confidence to navigate life's challenges.
Areas I Can Help With
I especially enjoy helping children and families navigate:
Childhood Anxiety: Managing worries, fears, and overwhelming thoughts.
Emotional Regulation: Helping children understand and manage big feelings.
Self-Esteem & Confidence: Building resilience and a stronger sense of self.
Friendships & Social Challenges: Navigating peer relationships, communication, and conflict.
Behavioral Concerns: Understanding challenging behaviors and developing healthier ways to express needs.
Parenting & Family Relationships: Strengthening communication, connection, and understanding between parents and children.
Life Transitions: Supporting children and families through changes at home, school, or in their relationships.
What It's Like to Work With Me
My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and tailored to each client's needs. I strive to meet children and families where they are while gently challenging them to explore new perspectives and make meaningful changes.
I specialize in Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), which gives children a natural way to express emotions, process experiences, and build confidence through play. I also incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients recognize unhelpful thought patterns and develop practical coping strategies.
I believe parents and caregivers are an important part of a child's progress. I work alongside families to strengthen communication, build healthier relationships, and help children carry what they're learning in therapy into everyday life.
My Background & Experience
I have nearly seven years of experience working with elementary and middle school children and their families, including experience within the school system. I understand how challenging it can be for families to navigate school concerns, advocate for their children, and collaborate with teachers and school staff.
I'm especially passionate about early intervention and helping families build stronger relationships before challenges become more deeply rooted.
My clinical background includes Child-Centered Play Therapy, CBT, and training in the DC:0–5 diagnostic framework for early childhood mental health.
